Lead On

in the heat of humid sundays i have travelled long
i have been a hundred fools, and each has sung his song
and every fight that found me i have neither won nor lost
but saints and sinners both will know the bridges i have crossed
saints and sinners surely know the bridges i have crossed

deluded, proud, i strode, a baby in a crown
the more i hastened on, the less i knew where i was bound
and though when i've met evil, i've resisted as i could
i've seen so much that's bad i might not recognize the good
i've seen so much that's bad i might not recognize the good

lead on! you guide me now
lead on! the sun is down
and i have found an end
and all i have is tomorrow
and all i seek is anything we can celebrate,
  anything i can praise

what a crowd before me stands! what a lucky man am i!
in every breast a steady heart, a gleam in every eye
and as i think i know you all, that you are who i am,
i wonder if i'm one step on from where i first began
am i even one step on from where i first began?

lead on! you guide me now
lead on! the sun is down
and i have found an end
and all i have is tomorrow
and all i seek is anything we can celebrate,
  anything i can praise
